A little bit about me!

My name is Alison Dobson, wife, mother of two and Health Visitor living and working in the West Midlands.

I trained as a general nurse many moons ago followed by a break living abroad and having children eventually returning and kicking off working life again. In those intervening years I had become fascinated by the way babies and children developed depending on the people who care for them experiences they have and how that can alter how they grow into happy adults. This led to my Midwifery training which was followed by a number of years of practice before being accepted for health visitor training.  I have now been a practising health visitor for 12 years and continue to be fascinated by the development of babies.

I am very aware of the vast array of information available to new parents whether it’s on blogs websites books or other media devices. I fully believe that our best source of information as parents is actually ourselves. We all have an instinct and for mums in particular ( sorry Dads, it’s because Mummy’s have the heads up due to the 9months spent growing the baby) it is very strong and if we trust it, won’t go far wrong in solving our baby and children’s  needs.

However for the moments when parents are lost and panic is blinding  them I aim to provide some evidence based posts to support and hopefully nurture mums and dads.

Evidence based means it’s been researched and is the best advice….. But that’s not to say it’s right for  you but the information or advice is worth  knowing and may come in useful later along the line.

If you are looking for more one-to-one advice, please email me at  aj.dobson@btinternet.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
